What are the main uses of tetrahydrofuran
Tetrahydrofuran can be used as solvent and raw material for organic synthesis. It is used as an aprotic solvent with medium polarity in chemical reaction and extraction. Tetrahydrofuran is a colorless, low viscosity liquid with a smell similar to ether. At room temperature, tetrahydrofuran is partially miscible with water, and some illegal reagent dealers use this to make huge profits on tetrahydrofuran reagent mixed with water. Tetrahydrofuran is easy to turn into peroxide during storage. Therefore, commercial tetrahydrofurans often use BHT, i.e. 2,6-di-tert-butyl-p-cresol, to prevent oxidation. Tetrahydrofuran can be stored in a sealed bottle in the dark through sodium hydroxide.
Tetrahydrofuran is an important organic chemical and fine chemical raw material, which is widely used in resin solvents (tape coating, PVC surface coating, cleaning PVC reactor, removing PVC film, cellophane coating, plastic printing ink, thermoplastic polyurethane coating); Reaction solvents (format reagents, alkyl alkali metal compounds and aryl alkali metal compounds, aluminum hydride and boron hydride, steroids and macromolecular organic polymers); Chemical intermediate products (PTMEG and natural gas flavoring agent generated by polymerization); Chromatographic solvents (gel permeation chromatography). Tetrahydrofuran has the characteristics of low toxicity, low boiling point and good fluidity.
Tetrahydrofuran (THF), also known as 1,4-epoxy butane and oxyheterocyclopentane, is a heterocyclic organic compound, CAS No. 109-99-9, molecular formula C4H8O, molecular weight 72.11. It is a colorless, water miscible and less viscous transparent liquid at room temperature.
1. Used as chromatographic reagent;
2. Used as solvent for surface coating, anti-corrosion coating, printing ink, tape and film coating;
3. It is used as surface treatment agent of synthetic leather and intermediate of synthetic pesticide phenylbutyltin;
4. In the pharmaceutical industry, it is used to synthesize kebiqing, rifamycin, progesterone and some hormone drugs;
5. In the field of chemical industry, it is used to synthesize Tetrahydrothiophene, 1.4-dichloroethane, 2.3-dichlorotetrahydrofuran, pentalactone, butyrolactone and pyrrolidone.
